Xiaomi has earned recognition for various aspects, and one of them is MIUI, their proprietary Android interface, which garners both praise and critique from users. MIUI is commended for its extensive customization options, offering one of the most in-depth customization experiences among all Android interfaces.

Xiaomi Introduced HyperOS As The Replacement For MIUI

Today, Xiaomi’s Founder and CEO, Lei Jun, took to Twitter to unveil Xiaomi HyperOS, an operating system set to make its initial appearance on the Xiaomi 14 series. Speculations suggest that these upcoming flagship models will make their debut by the end of October.

Previous reports hinted at Xiaomi transitioning from MIUI to MiOS, but it seems that the next evolution of Xiaomi’s operating system will be named HyperOS.

Xiaomi HyperOS Release Date

It has been officially confirmed that HyperOS will coincide with the release of the Xiaomi 14 series, scheduled for the conclusion of October 2023. Xiaomi’s Vice President has also assured that HyperOS will have a global release and will gradually become available worldwide over the course of 2024.

Upon hearing about Xiaomi’s HyperOS, one of the initial questions that may arise is whether it is an independent operating system or if it will be rooted in Android. Considering recent developments like Huawei’s introduction of HarmonyOS for the Chinese market, the idea of Xiaomi crafting its own operating system doesn’t seem improbable.

In a Weibo post, Lei Jun has officially affirmed that HyperOS will be “built upon the fusion of highly evolved Android and Xiaomi’s proprietary Vela system. This involves a comprehensive overhaul of the underlying architecture, laying the groundwork for a universal platform to support the Internet of Everything, encompassing billions of devices and connections in the future.”

This clarification makes it evident that HyperOS will not be a standalone operating system; instead, it will be built upon the foundation of Android.

Features of Upcoming HyperOS

As this announcement is quite recent, there is currently no information available about the appearance of the OS or Xiaomi’s specific intentions for it. Will they aim to create a less cluttered operating system for a global audience?

Could HyperOS provide a near-stock AOSP experience with some added Xiaomi features? Many questions remain, and we anticipate that these mysteries will unravel as we approach the release of the Xiaomi 14 Series.

In any case, HyperOS appears to offer Xiaomi an excellent opportunity to deliver a unified experience, creating a comprehensive operating system for all their devices. This could result in faster updates and extended update support, taking inspiration from Google’s recent Pixel 8 announcement.

It also presents a golden opportunity for the company to enhance their product line and build a more integrated ecosystem, a hallmark of Xiaomi’s identity that they aim to refine to match the seamless integration seen in products from other manufacturers.
